Our Story

New York, 2016: Sara Becker, a comedy writer and creative director was waiting for the train surrounded by the familiar voices of strangers. She wanted to know who the voices belonged to. Who was the subway announcer? The conductor? The busker? And what were their stories? She decided to find out and give credit where it was due.

Myriad friends and strangers lent their voices and stories about NYC to this project. Sounds of NYC features 12 stories on sold out limited edition vinyl records and 21 stories on the Sounds of NYC Podcast.

New York is the first of many cities Sara will highlight. Next up? San Francisco.

Supporting Nonprofits

Sounds of NYC is a proud supporter of New York’s 92NY with 100% of proceeds from vinyl sales benefiting them. They have been a wonderful partner and promoter of the project. Thank you!

Each iteration of the project will support an institution that is crucial to its city.
